چکیده

From their inception, fuzzy sets were introduced by Zadeh [55] with a view to formalize human knowledge in engineering problems. This implies fuzzy sets had somehow to come to grip with some aspects of natural language modeling, and in particular, with the concept of vagueness, i.e., the idea that the extension of some natural language predicates lacks clear truth conditions. The claim that fuzzy sets are a basic tool for addressing vagueness of linguistic terms has been around for a long time. For instance, Novák [38] insists that fuzzy logic is tailored for vagueness and he opposes vagueness to uncertainty. Nevertheless, in the last thirty years, the literature dealing with vagueness has grown significantly, and much of it is far from agreeing on the central role played by fuzzy sets in this phenomenon. Following Keefe & Smith [42], vague concepts in natural language display three features:

Fuzzy Logic as a Theory of Vagueness: 15 Conceptual Questions

In spite of its successes as a tool in the field of engineering, fuzzy set theory has yet to achieve the universal footing that probability theory has across the various fields of mathematics, technology, philosophy and psychology. This paper sets out points of critique brought up regarding the fuzzy approach and seeks to analyze them, focusing on the question of whether anything that can be do...

A Framework for Optimal Attribute Evaluation and Selection in Hesitant Fuzzy Environment Based on Enhanced Ordered Weighted Entropy Approach for Medical Dataset

Background: In this paper, a generic hesitant fuzzy set (HFS) model for clustering various ECG beats according to weights of attributes is proposed. A comprehensive review of the electrocardiogram signal classification and segmentation methodologies indicates that algorithms which are able to effectively handle the nonstationary and uncertainty of the signals should be used for ECG analysis. Ex...

A research on classification performance of fuzzy classifiers based on fuzzy set theory

Due to the complexities of objects and the vagueness of the human mind, it has attracted considerable attention from researchers studying fuzzy classification algorithms. In this paper, we propose a concept of fuzzy relative entropy to measure the divergence between two fuzzy sets. Applying fuzzy relative entropy, we prove the conclusion that patterns with high fuzziness are close to the classi...

Theory and applications of fuzzy Volterra integral equations

Formulations of fuzzy integral equations in terms of the Aumann integral do not reflect the behavior of corresponding crisp models. Consequently, they are ill-adapted to describe physical phenomena, even when vagueness and uncertainty are present. A similar situation for fuzzy ODEs has been obviated by interpretation in terms of families of differential inclusions. The paper extends this formal...

On modeling vagueness and uncertainty in data-to-text systems through fuzzy sets

Vagueness and uncertainty management is counted among one of the challenges that remain unresolved in systems that generate texts from non-linguistic data, known as data-to-text systems. In the last decade, work in fuzzy linguistic summarization and description of data has raised the interest of using fuzzy sets to model and manage the imprecision of human language in data-to-text systems. Howe...
